Association of British Credit Unions www.abcul.org Web-site of the main trade association for credit unions in the UK. Very informative, includes sections on the roles of credit unions, how they are run and regulated. Also has a list of members.
British Bankers' Association www.bba.org.uk Includes useful fact sheets covering the banking code; availability of basic bank accounts and the BBA's work on financial inclusion.
British Cheque Cashers Association www.bcca.co.uk The trade body of 350 companies involved in cheque cashing. Includes a copy of their code of practice.
Building Societies Association www.bsa.org.uk Site of the trade body of the 65 UK building societies. Includes general information about building societies including consumer fact sheets covering topics such as dormant accounts.
Council of Mortgage Lenders www.cml.org.uk The site lists all CML members with links to the lenders' own sites. It includes the mortgage code, various policy statements and a range of consumer information. It also has factsheets dealing with complaints under the mortgage code, policy statements about arrears and possessions and the voluntary agreement on mortgage shortfalls.
Consumer Credit Trade Association www.ccta.co.uk Recently established site of the CCTA which is still being developed.
Consumer Credit Association www.ccauk.org The CCA is the trade body of the home credit industry with 550 lender members. The site has general information about the CCA although it is a pity that a list of its members is not produced nor is the code of practice made available on line.
Credit Services Association www.csa-uk.com Site of the UK trade body of debt collectors and enquiry agents. Includes their code of conduct and list of members.
Enforcement Services Association www.ensas.org.uk The trade body for UK bailiffs. Includes code of conduct and directory of members.
Eurofinas www.eurofinas.org Eurofinas is the European Federation of Finance Houses of which the credit trade bodies of member states belong. The site provides a lot of news about developments in consumer credit across Europe. It also includes a database of consumer credit law in each of the member states.
Finance and Leasing Association www.fla.org.uk The major consumer finance trade body. Contains a link to members' sites. Can download the FLA Code of Practice and information about the FLA's complaints procedure. Contains useful consumer guidance about payment difficulties and even has a detailed explanation about early repayment charges and the rule of 78 calculation.
Joint Money Laundering Steering Group www.jmlsg.org.uk A body that aims is to promulgate good practice in countering money laundering and to give practical assistance in interpreting the UK Money Laundering Regulations. The JMLSG Guidance Notes are published on the website.
